Having 3 cats, who all share 1 litter box, can be an issue if you are barefooted when trying to "scoop the box". We have tried having just a mat under the box, but we have one kitten who thinks he is digging to China every time he goes in the box. Placing this mat outside the box has made a tremendous difference. First, the cats are not tracking the litter way outside the box and second, this collects even the litter cast our by our digger. It has also saved on litter. Now we just pick up the mat and shake the litter back into the box. It is also very easy to just take the mat outside and rinse it clean with the hose rather than moving the box, picking up the tile covering that the whole box is sitting on, taking it outside and washing it, drying it, then putting it back, then moving the box back. We do have a little brush and dustpan, but this mat saves time and effort so we rarely need to use the brush and dustpan. There has been a noticeable improvement in litter-free floors with this Two Meows Mat. We do use the clumping litter, but I believe this would work as well with the clay-type litter.
